Queen of Pentacles- the Power of the Winter Season

Winter Solstice is approaching on December 21st and for those living in the northern hemisphere, this is the darkest, longest night of the year.

It is also a time of great power.

The Earth is hibernating and like the greenery and temperatures, it may seem as if progress toward your goals are frozen. Stuck, stagnant, on hold.

This is an illusion however.

The season of darkness is a time of deep reflection. While you may be feeling less motivated, perhaps even melancholy, it could be that your body and soul require the type of stillness that Mother Nature is role modeling.

Perhaps this is the time for you to slow down and go deeper underground into the depths of your subconscious. As the Earth appears to be sleeping and growth seems dormant there is actually much healing, rejuvenating and cleansing taking place. The dark part of the year is necessary so that the cycle of life, death and rebirth can exist. Yet we humans aspire to remain in constant movement, always pushing our way forward, seldom sitting still. We expect to never need to sleep.

The Tarot Queen embodying nature and the Earth element is the Queen of Pentacles. She is grounded and practical and is also aligned with abundance, wealth and work. Unlike the Queen of Wands and Swords however, she is not interested in speeding to the finish line.

Instead she understands the power of slow and steady effort. She understands the value of being rather than constantly doing. Her power comes from the deep roots that she has set into the ground. She understands the power of stillness and silence.

When things don’t appear to be changing or growing fast enough, connect with the Queen of Pentacles by harnessing your relationship with the natural world. She will remind you that long before plants break through the surface of the ground, there is much activity happening beneath the surface leading to the regeneration that will come in spring time.

She will remind you of your own intuitive power which you can better hear and appreciate when you have slowed down enough to listen.
